Help support your frame in windy areas, or to allow an increased amount of tension in linear cable lines. If your frame poles are under 3.5" OD schedule 40, are 10' or higher, and you do not have longitudinal poles to compensate the torque (shown in diagram above) - you will experience bowing at the top of your frame when the linear cable lines are tightened, minimizing the tension you can place on the lines, resulting in sag in your tunnel ceiling. A ground auger system helps the poles compensate by placing a near equal amount of opposite torque on the top of the frame poles.
